Just a boring generic standing drawing of Kovos just to show off one of my ideas for the tattoo he’ll have.
The style of hatobe tattoos mimic the family bands done around the tail. They’re very rectangular with no curves. There’s some variation in angles, but usually it’s just 90 degrees. It’s always an abstract design and beyond the family bands, the meaning behind them have been lost. Now they’re just for decoration and to show that you’re a pretty badass dude!
Why badass? Because tattoos are applied by jabbing the skin with a stick loaded with needles. It’s similar to the style of Japanese tattooing but they do big black bands instead of careful gradations. And it’s one of the most painful tattooing processes. So if you’ve got a large tattoo like Kovos here, you’re a pretty tough dude to sit through getting jabbed with a buncha needles on a stick for a good while.
Since Tarock will be one of those traveling around for money and adventure stories, they will be visiting a variety of climates. The area I like to chat about the most is the desert with roaming sandworms and sexy harems.
Boji would obviously wear poofy pants when they arrive. Then search for the nearest harem of sexy belly dancers.
A couple derpy Kovos faces to get used the new style of noses.
Kovy looks like a big baby face without his beard. So he will never shave it off unless he will face so much teasing from Alysia about his fat baby cheeks.
Wiggle your big nose.
Was asked what kinda decorations/jewelry hatobe wear for designing one of the main characters in my comic.
They wear pretty much anything your average human girl would wear, with no preference to metal or leather. Richer ones will of course go for precious metals. Girls do tend to wear anklets a lot since they go around barefoot ( shoes for those feet would just look silly! ) and some even wear rings or ribbons on their tail.
But both boys and girls have an affinity for piercings. Nose piercings are the most common piercing other than ears. Girls especially like them since the is very visible against their black noses. They don’t really go extreme with the piercings, just keep it practical.
Had one hell of a time installing Manga Studio EX 4 but… finally got it working! Here’s a quick doodle I did last night. It didn’t have the bee before but a friend randomly said he should have one so… Now it’s Kovy the Pooh! MSEX is a pretty interesting program and I think I might end up using it a lot when drawing the actual pages of Tarock a good while down the line. It sets itself up perfectly for publishing later.
I’m a buff baby that can cook like a man!
I can cook-a my flanny! I can cook-a my bran!
I’m a tough kitchen baby!
Kovos is actually an accomplished cook! He learned everything he knows from his Nana as punishment for always trying to eat food before it’s cooked. His signature dish as a kid was the Truffle Shuffle.
Now that he’s older, he’s not as fat. His belly doesn’t hang out anymore after he got into beast slaying. Best exercise program ever!
Oh hey, it’s a line up. You can see how tall everyone is! … Kovy’s on the short side for hatobes. Alysia was taller than him when they were kids.
Girl on the far left is Noko, the last main character that I’ve been slacking off in and haven’t drawn. She’s kinda chubby but in that sexy curves way. Noko’s a nurse that can use a bit of healing magic. More stuff later when I actually get a real drawing of her done.
Wings are so hard to draw. :C
Dragons in Tarock aren’t the usual big magnificent beasts that eat cattle. Nope! They’re the size of normal pet lizards, the winged ones growing no more than than 10 inches long. So I did a few sketches of my lizards, mostly my bearded dragon to get the feel of normal lizard bodies that have the back legs splayed out rather than standing upright.
Also, Noko ( the 4th main character ) has one as a pet.
Anywho, bearded dragons make a good base ref and I think I’ll be going with leopard gecko heads because they have big cute eyes. Oh, did I mention these dragons can talk? The small flying ones are silly like fairies but the larger, ground bound ones are actually smart. Good pets for bookworms and alchemists or families who want to talk to their dog.
